As a member of our Operations team, you will be required to work 8 hour to 12 hour shifts and participate in a rotating on-call and after hours stand-by duty schedule.
Position Summary
The Process and Plant Operator is responsible for the day-to-day safe and customer-oriented operations of bio-gas plant(s), combined heat and power plant(s) as well as the monitoring and operation of commercial and utility scale photovoltaic installations. This position will conduct monitoring and operations while following all standard operating procedures, safety programs, and environment protection. The Process Operator will be the main contact for the plant(s) and demonstrate excellent communications and customer service to all stakeholders.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Monitor, operate and service bio-gas plant(s) & building facilities within code requirements.
- Monitor, operate and service combined heat and power plant(s).
- Monitor, operate and service photovoltaic installations.
- Plan, direct, schedule, and complete work activities for safe and efficient plant operations.
- Manage all facilities processes utilizing equipment and systems.
- Responsible for receiving, disposing, and managing waste product deliveries.
- Maintain a daily log of operations, inspections, maintenance, and safety activities and contribute to all plant operational reports.
- Perform chemical/digestate sampling and testing and make necessary adjustments.
- Monitor and respond to plant alarms and emergencies to provide maintenance services.
- Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance tasks on all plant/energy center equipment and systems.
- Disassemble/reassemble, clean, and lubricate machinery, components and process equipment.
- Establish, implement, and adhere to standard equipment operating procedures.
- Follow all work processes and safe operating procedures for the job site in accordance with company policy, safe operating guides, and the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
- Monitor, operate and service bio-gas plant(s) & building facilities within code requirements.
- Perform corrective action or minor repairs, as required.
- Participate in renovation, upgrades and expansion projects.
- Monitor, operate and service bio-gas plant(s) & building facilities within code requirements.
- Apply theoretical and practical knowledge to continuously improve overall efficiency and process operations for all plant(s).
- Liaise with outside contractors.
- Provide occasional training & guidance to others on the job site.
- Safely perform work in confined spaces and varying weather/temperature conditions (indoors and outdoors).
- Complete general maintenance and other assigned activities as required to ensure a clean & safe work site.
Qualifications:
- 4th class Operating Engineer, Waste Water Technician, or related certification in the province of Ontario. Please note that we are not able to offer qualifying steam time based on the operating requirements of the bio-gas plant.
- Demonstrated experience in waste processing, plant operations, mechanical systems, and thermal or photovoltaic energy.
- Knowledge of the bio-gas process, power generation systems, and the auxiliary equipment required in the process.
- Proven ability to apply knowledge and skills to identify and implement continuous process improvements for plant efficiency, safety, and optimization.
- Strong aptitude for decision making, problem solving, and troubleshooting issues in a timely manner.
- Ability to work in varying weather/temperature conditions and perform physically demanding work as required.
- Able to read P&ID and coordinate project upgrade and renewal projects.
- Self-starter; ability to multi-task, work under pressure, and succeed with minimum supervision.
- Experience establishing and following standard operating procedures for equipment and implementing safe work procedures.
- Must be able to document their work and perform and manage communication with multiple site stakeholders.
- Excellent customer service skills and commitment to safe work procedures is essential.
- Ability to operate a skid steer will be an asset.
- Confined Space Entry training considered an asset.
- Comprehensive technical knowledge and experience directly related to district energy, power generation systems including mechanical, electrical, civil, structural and industrial technical disciplines, as well as SCADA and BAS related to plant operation.
- Ontario Trade Certificate as an industrial electrician will be an asset.
- Must have valid ‘G’ driving license in the province of Ontario and be able to travel to various job sites across the GTA on a daily basis.
