A New Home.
Built for Oshawa's Future.

After 95 years at 100 Simcoe Street South, Oshawa Power is moving. Here's everything you need to know and what it means for you.

A new chapter for Oshawa Power.

Oshawa Power has called 100 Simcoe Street South home since 1931. Our lease at 100 Simcoe will not be renewed, so we're building a home better suited to how we work today. The move is well timed. After more than 95 years here, the building no longer fits our needs:

Space Constraints

As a heritage building, 100 Simcoe has been renovated many times, but there's nowhere left to expand. We now have 90 employees in a space built for 70, with operations working around limitations daily.

City Growth

In 1931, Oshawa had 25,000 residents. Today, we serve a city of 185,000 and that number continues to rise. Our infrastructure needs to keep pace.

Downtown Revitalization

The City's DTO revitalization plan envisions a vibrant, mixed-use downtown core. Our Simcoe Street site is well-positioned to support that future.

Did You Know?

Today, our fleet vehicles park in the same space that was once a horse stable.

Limitations We Work Around

  • Deliveries that should take 10 minutes can take over an hour. Staff often need to step into traffic to direct traffic, and materials travel through multiple steps to reach our stores department. This process is seamless at other LDCs with modern facilities.
  • Our pole yard is off-site and has recently been purchased as part of Metrolinx provincial plans to build the rail corridor east of Oshawa, limiting our inventory storage capabilties.
  • Increasing safety concerns in the area immediately surrounding our office require staff to take additional precautions when entering, exiting, and working on-site.
  • Our building was originally designed to accommodate a maximum of 70 employees. With over 90 full-time staff today, we have outgrown the space, creating ongoing challenges for workspace, collaboration, and day-to-day operations.

Oshawa is growing.
We're keeping pace.

When we moved in during the Depression, Oshawa had roughly 25,000 residents. Today that number is 185,000 and is projected to reach nearly 220,000 by 2031. The same building has served a city that is now seven times larger.

Our new consolidated facility at 2072 Thornton Road North is designed to grow with Oshawa, supporting more customers, a larger fleet, and the electrification needs of a future-ready city.
