EnerFORGE is a subsidiary of Oshawa Power and Utilities Corporation located in Regent Park, Toronto. The District Energy System (DES) produces high-efficiency heating and cooling for multiple residential and commercial buildings at the neighborhood scale. The DES consists of a heating, cooling and cogeneration center and a thermal network of pipes connecting groups of buildings. The DES plant has installed boiler capacity of 35 MW and 5 MW heat recovery equipment. The DES plant also includes installed chilling capacity in excess of 4650 tons. Facility consists of 4.2 MW of electrical generation as campus electric. ZooShare-biogas, located in Scarborough is turning waste from the Toronto Zoo and creating renewable power, and fertilizer. At ZooShare, we recycle 2,000 tonnes of waste from the Toronto Zoo and 15,000 tonnes of inedible local food waste to create renewable energy for over 250 Ontario homes each year.
ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY

As the successful applicant, you will have the opportunity to be involved with:
- Operating and servicing building/plant (e.g., boilers, water softeners, chillers, HVAC, automation systems, fire systems, call systems, emergency power) within code requirements;
- Confidently leads a team of multiple Operating Engineers;
- Establishing standard operating procedures for equipment;
- Applying practical knowledge to continuously improve overall efficiency in operations;
- Performing daily water chemical tests, and adjust chemicals as necessary;
- Maintaining and repairing boilers (e.g., shut-down, boiler inspection, replace parts);
- Maintaining and servicing hot water systems (e.g., pumps, converters, heat reclamation system, piping);
- Responding to building maintenance service calls and emergencies, after-hours and weekends;
- Maintaining a daily log of operation, maintenance and safety activities and reporting on plant operation;
- Monitoring & responding to plant alarms and troubleshooting activities to assess, maintain & repair issues;
- Provide additional support for Technicians tasked with complex jobs;
- Fosters a collaborative and encouraging team environment;
- Liaising with outside contractors;
- Cleaning and lubricating machinery and components and maintains ventilation units;
- Overseeing the combined heat and power (CHP), along with monitoring and metering plant outputs to ensure that levels are within the target;
- Preventative maintenance tasks on all plant/energy center equipment & systems;
- Participating in renovation, upgrades and expansion projects;
- Locking / unlocking doors and performs security checks;
WHAT YOU HAVE TO OFFER
- 4th class Operating Engineer certification in the province of Ontario;
- Demonstrated experience in operating engineering, mechanical or electrical technician, or related field;
- Demonstrated related industry experience in thermal energy, reciprocating engine and co-generation power plants;
- Demonstrated leadership experience;
- Comprehensive knowledge of chilled water systems including reciprocating, screw type and absorption chillers;
- A thorough knowledge of electrical/electronic components and equipment;
- Working knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics and mechanical systems;
- Able to read P&ID and coordinate the ongoing project if required;
- Able to multi-task and work under pressure;
- Ability to operate and succeed with minimum supervision;
- Comprehensive technical knowledge and experience directly related to district energy, power generation systems including mechanical, electrical, civil, structural and industrial technical disciplines, as well as SCADA and BAS related to plant operation;
- Familiarity with operation, assembly, and maintenance of electro-mechanical equipment;
- Mechanical and/or automation aptitude toward equipment troubleshooting and root cause analysis is considered as key asset;
- Must have valid ‘G’ driving license in the province of Ontario and be able to travel to various job sites across the GTA on a daily basis.
